Hooked on CKI!!!! What's it all about??
By: Governor Gina Durham

So your asking yourself… just what is Hooked on CKI???  Well… Hooked on CKI is a set of tactics I have developed to retain members and gain new members! I can’t take all the credit though… I did a little research and attended a few conferences to get my information and theory! Hopefully you can use these ideas to help keep members coming back for more fun Circle K!  The main aspect of Hooked on CKI is keeping meetings and events FUN and INTERESTING!
What makes students want to come to Circle K meetings rather than going out and doing other things? We all know the answer to that question, but we have to give the new members reasons to stay!  Here are a few ideas:

  • New Member Meetings: At the beginning of each semester have a “new member meeting” for new members interested in CKI. Talk about all the fun things going on and what we do all year round!  This meeting doesn’t have to have complete structure! You can have games, prizes, and food!!
  • Monthly fun meetings and socials: Once a month have a “member meeting.” A good thing to do is order pizza or have your board members all make a nice dessert to share, play games, give out some prizes, and just have fun! Socials can be planned weekly, monthly etc. You can even have a social chairperson!
  • Service is FUN: Making each event fun will keep your members coming back for more! Also, having small service projects during meetings will help keep meetings inactive and keep your members engaged instead of just sitting and listening.
  • Interclubbing: Interclubbing is a great way to get together with another club and have a great time.  Interclubbing can be done during service projects, socials or both!  Mascot stealing is another way to promote interclubbing within your club!

These clubs are doing it!!! You can to!!!

  • Rowan University: Raffles at meetings for different membership categories
  • Rutgers University: Fun service projects!!!
  • Stockton College: Weekly socials, Member of the week, and themed meetings
  • TCNJ: Membership incentive program for service project, meeting, and district events attendance!!
